Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord..........And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest,And on earth peace, toward men of goodwill."
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has annointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me, to heal the broken hearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
Luke 4:18-19
Once upon a time, many years ago, a child was born in Bethlehem. The date and time of His birth is unknown to us. There is no mandate to set aside His birth as a Holy Day. And yet, the birth of Jesus Christ, our Messiah, is a cause of great rejoicing. Are you poor? Broken hearted? Captive? Blind? Oppressed? Sin, death and trouble have entered this world. And yet there is hope. There is faith. There is love. There is peace and joy. There is good news, and Jesus Christ brings it all.
Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:28-29
Now that is something worth celebrating!!
