Today: Looking Back and Looking Forward

Show me Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
On You I wait all the day.
Psalm 25:4, 5

Today I have been meandering through my relflections on this year that is now quickly coming to a close.  2011 has been a year of stretching for our family.  A year filled with many new things.  A year filled with adventure and vision.

Beside me lay my plans for the year of 2012 - plans for our work and our learning and our social activity and our family.  Before me, on the screen sits the series of posts Marigold Cottage School 2011.  I am thinking about where we are headed, as a family, and individually.  I am thinking about where we have been and what we have done in 2011.  I am pondering the work God is doing in our lives.  On our coffee table lies my holiday reading.  Books by Ruth Beechick, Oliver DeMille and his TJed team, and Diane B. Lockman of Classical Scholar.  Books for inspiration for my new year ahead.  Books that will help me think through my ever broadening and deepening philosophy.  Books that will help keep me on my toes in my parenting of three growing daughters.

My heart plans my way,
but the Lord directs my steps.
(see Proverbs 16:9)

Back in November I sketched out  the main ideas, the broad goals and the materials we plan to use for the Home Education of my girls in 2012.  Now, over the next month, I will search out the finer details and how it will all fit in with our daily family life, and search out the inspiration for another year, and share them with you as I journey along.

In amongst all that we have a new trampoline to play with, cricket to watch, chickens and gardens to look after, a home to clean and organise, a family to feed, a couple of camping trips planned, some new kayak's to try out at the local lake and river, a new Kindle to fill up with lovely and delicious things to read and our beach to explore and swim in.

How are you spending this last week of 2011?  What are your reflections on the year that has passed and the year yet to come?

Happy New Year to you all!  xo

I've been reflecting on my year too, it's the time of the year for it. Enjoy the trampoline and cricket, and kayaks and camping, sounds like a good way to recharge before any more school planning :-)

Yes, the reflections are flowing here too. It is so lovely to have some time off and slowly I am beginning to plan and think about our homeschooling plans for 2012. Your holidays sound lovely, I have a book pile that I would like to get through plus I have assessments for my fitness 3 to do, singing lessons that my Husband & I brought for ourselves, guitar lessons, lot's of time at the beach, cleaning our B&B apartments and greeting new guests and hopefully more reading! xxx

As the others, I have been reflecting and churning a lot over in my head. Nothing has made it on to paper here yet. It has been a huge year for us as well and I see so many areas that need tightening up (re school). I am just finding it hard to think clearly now. Hopefully that will come in the next week or two but we won't start back until end of January, Lord willing.
