When my children were all under the age of 12 our family life was very free. We had limited outside commitments, and our time was spent simply as a family, working at home and visiting with friends and family. Visits to the beach. park, library, art gallery etc, sometimes on our own, sometimes with friends. Lovely and simple.
Now we have entered the older childhood and young adulthood stages, life is different. The developing interests and skills of the girls has led to being involved in outside commitments - so many good things to choose from now, but we cannot do it all. Our growing circle of friends, who go to school, naturally means we need to free up our school holiday times to enable them to have craft days and beach days with their friends and family. The time of preparation for adulthood means a more intense focus on study, driving lessons and an introduction to paid work in the workforce.
Family life is never dull - some years it is more like a roller-coster ride.

Lovely long lazy summer days to look forward to.
What have you been up to lately?

Sounds lovely! Family life is very seasonal isn't it. Sometimes I find it hard to balance the growing social needs of my older ones when we still have a 3 year old to consider. We are planning a quiet week at home this week to just unwind and relax. Lots of reading, Christmas movie watching, and some gardening. Then we plan to launch ourselves into Christmas baking and craft! I hope you enjoy yourselves over the holidays! Mel x
I read this and smiled ... this is what our life has been like.
I don't mind the busy-ness that we find ourselves in during term as the children really thrive on the learning. But then, it's so nice to be able to stop and enjoy a more relaxed, natural-learning pace.
We're slowly winding down too, with probably 2 more weeks of 'finishing up' to go.
Enjoy your summer break!
Exactly Amy! We will officially finish lessons when DH starts holidays but the truth is that both boys are winding down with their lessons. Master J, who is enrolled at OAC has been winding down for nearly 2 weeks now!
I can't wait for holidays- yes they mean a lot more once formal lessons start to take priority during the term.
It reminds me of working during the week and out need for a Sabbath rest. When one truly works hard, the rest is really appreciated. :)
