Language & Music
I grew up in a musical home. My father taught himself to play the organ. My mother loved musicals and would often be heard singing a whole variety of fun songs while she worked about the house. In our early years, when the extended family got together for special occasions like Christmas, Opa (my grandfather) would play the piano while the family sang together. And at home my father would often play the organ in the evenings, while the young children of the family danced about. And naturally, growing up in the Christian Church, music was part of our corporate worship time.
Music has woven it itself through every aspect of my life.
Language, and in particular Latin, was a love that was gifted to us through our homeschooling adventures. Without homeschooling, I would never have considered, let alone attempted, a foray into the world of Latin. Exploring Latin has unlocked the English language for me in ways I had never before realised. It has given me the skills to read more deeply and understand more broadly. It has helped me appreciate our older English styles, like our old Victorian English, Shakespeare and our King James Bible - all rich treasures of cultural history and literature.
Lingua Musica is our learning room for Latin and Music. In the pages of Lingua Musica I share some of our adventures in the worlds of Latin and Music, links to share that I use in our own home and homeschool classes. And in these pages as well you will find much of what I teach in my Latin and Music classes for homeschoolers on the Sunshine Coast.
Feel free to visit and explore. And hopefully take away some nuggets of ideas for your own Latin and Music adventures.
